HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION

        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Dr. Terry J. Thompson on being named 2010 Indiana Superintendent of the Year.

    Whereas, Dr. Terry J. Thompson was chosen out of seven finalists for Indiana Superintendent of the Year;

    Whereas, Thompson graduated from St. Francis University and earned his doctorate in education from Ball State University;

    Whereas, Thompson worked with Center Grove Community Schools, Decatur Township Schools, Manchester Community Schools, and Steuben County Schools before taking the post of Superintendent of Wayne Township Schools in 1996;

    Whereas, Under Thompson's leadership, Wayne Township has implemented many beneficial new programs, including an early-college high school, a central preschool center, an international baccalaureate program, and 26 advanced placement classes;

    Whereas, Thompson also began the Help One Student to Succeed (HOSTS) program, which is designed to advance the reading skills of elementary students. The HOSTS program boasts over 1,000 volunteer mentors, including Dr. Thompson;

    Whereas, Dr. Thompson will now serve as Indiana's nominee for the American Association of School Administrators' National Superintendent of the Year Award;

and

    Whereas, Dr. Thompson's vision has greatly enhanced education within Wayne Township. His leadership has transformed Wayne Township into the effective and successful school district that it is today. Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates Dr. Terry J. Thompson on being named 2010 Indiana Superintendent of the Year.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to Dr. Terry J. Thompson.
