RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the West Lafayette
High School football team.
Whereas, The West Lafayette High School Red Devils
became the 2009 Class 3A state football champions with a
24-10 victory over Evansville Memorial;
Whereas, West Lafayette, ranked No. 2, topped off a perfect
15-0 season by adding a second state championship to the
Class 2A title won in 1993;
Whereas, The Red Devils scored three first half touchdowns
against eighth-ranked Evansville Memorial in the
championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis;
Whereas, Junior Aaron Woodard scored twice in the first
half for West Lafayette on a 22-yard carry around the left
side and a four-yard run with 17 seconds left in the first half
to give the Red Devils a 21-3 lead, and finished the game
with 17 carries for a total of 70 yards;
Whereas, Senior quarterback Daniel Wodicka led the team
in rushing with 115 yards, completed 13 of 24 passes for 158
yards, including a 37-yard touchdown to Andrew Pekny early
in the second quarter to give West Lafayette a 14-0 lead;
Whereas, Daniel Wodicka was named the 2009 Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award winner for Class 3A Football by the members of the Indiana High School Athletic Association Executive Committee; and
Whereas, Outstanding accomplishments such as this deserve special recognition: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates the
West Lafayette High School football team on its Class 3A state
championship victory and wishes the team members continued success
in all their future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to each team
member; managers Sarah Lim, Courtney Baxter, and Judi Keen;
assistant coaches Brad DeWees, Shane Fry, Rick Roseman, Josh
Strasser, Jon Speaker, Rick George, Aaron Wood, and Josh Roseman;
Head Coach Marshall Overley; Principal Ron Shriner; and
Superintendent Dr. Rocky Killion.
