2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Helen Catherine (nee Matre) Hopkinson of | ||||||
4 | River Forest, who passed away on June 9, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson was born on December 1, 1926 in | ||||||
6 | Oak Park to Richard and Gertrude Matre; she graduated from | ||||||
7 | Trinity High School in River Forest in 1944; she attended | ||||||
8 | Syracuse University and graduated from Rosary College (now | ||||||
9 | Dominican University) in River Forest; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson worked as a bookkeeper at her | ||||||
11 | husband's store, Gorman Church Goods, in Oak Park; later she | ||||||
12 | worked as an administrative assistant in the Obstetrics | ||||||
13 | Department at Loyola University Medical Center for 12 years; | ||||||
14 | upon her retirement in 1993, she moved to Valparaiso, Florida; | ||||||
15 | she returned to River Forest in 2008; and

16 | WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson was active in Ascension Catholic | ||||||
17 | Church in Oak Park and served as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout | ||||||
18 | leader; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
20 | husband, John; her siblings, Richard and sister-in-law Marilu | ||||||
21 | (Flanagan) Matre, John "Punch", and Patricia (Hopkinson) |

2 | WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson is survived by her children, Bill | ||||||
3 | (Debby), Sue, Bob (Paula), B.C. (Tim) Juettner, Joan (Mark) | ||||||
4 | Stakulis, Jim (Deborah), Dave (Sally), and John; her | ||||||
5 | grandchildren, Kari (Ryan) Gemmell, Mike Hopkinson, Lauren and | ||||||
6 | Allison Reinke, Nicole (Brian) Acker, Bobby and Colin | ||||||
7 | Hopkinson, John and Annelise Juettner, Nolan, Brian, Ciara, and | ||||||
8 | Maura Hopkinson, and Cliff and Matthew Hopkinson; her | ||||||
9 | sister-in-law, Jeanne (Hopkinson) Kevil; her many nieces and | ||||||
10 | nephews; and her 4 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Mackenzie | ||||||
11 | and Caitlin Acker, and Owen Gemmell; therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | Helen Catherine Hopkinson, and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
15 | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be | ||||||
16 | it further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Helen Hopkinson as an expression of | ||||||
19 | our deepest sympathy.
