1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Power generation companies have invested billions | ||||||
3 | of dollars in Illinois to make the state the fifth largest | ||||||
4 | generation state in the country; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Unlike California and other States in the Union, | ||||||
6 | Illinois is a net exporter of electricity in the Midwest | ||||||
7 | region; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The power industry supports more than 285,000 jobs | ||||||
9 | in Illinois; 103,000 of those jobs are direct high paying jobs | ||||||
10 | that run the power plants 24 hours a day; many if not most of | ||||||
11 | the jobs are union jobs that pay twice the national median | ||||||
12 | salary; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The electric power industry accounts for five | ||||||
14 | percent of the Illinois economy, with the industry and its | ||||||
15 | workers accounting for at least $3.7 billion in taxes in every | ||||||
16 | community in the State; these taxes keep property taxes low in | ||||||
17 | the counties that contain power generation assets; and

18 | WHEREAS, The electric power industry runs plants that keep | ||||||
19 | Illinois electric power reliable and effective; therefore, be | ||||||
20 | it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we strongly support the | ||||||
3 | electric industry in Illinois and stand behind the men and | ||||||
4 | women that operate the electric plants every day that keep the | ||||||
5 | lights on for Illinois citizens; and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, We support keeping Illinois an exporter of power | ||||||
7 | in the Midwest, therefore not relying on other state | ||||||
8 | legislatures for our power; and be it further
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, That we support public policy for reliable and | ||||||
10 | moderately priced electric power that will keep large electric | ||||||
11 | power plants operating well into the foreseeable future; and be | ||||||
12 | it further
| ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be sent | ||||||
14 | to the Governor and to the Speaker of the House.
