2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John C. Winkelman of Marengo, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on April 12, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Winkelman was born on February 12, 1958, in | ||||||
6 | Belvidere; his parents were Melvin and Marialyce (Lowe) | ||||||
7 | Winkelman; he married Lynn Nepstad on July 29, 1995, in | ||||||
8 | Huntley; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, John Winkelman was raised in Marengo and graduated | ||||||
10 | from Marengo Community High School in 1976; he was a part of | ||||||
11 | the Marengo Rescue Squad for 18 years, where he earned the | ||||||
12 | title of chief; he served as a volunteer firefighter for the | ||||||
13 | Huntley Fire Department for 3 years before becoming a full-time | ||||||
14 | employee in 1991; he eventually worked his way to the rank of | ||||||
15 | captain; and

16 | WHEREAS, John Winkelman enjoyed riding his motorcycle, | ||||||
17 | fishing, animals, and spending time with his family; in his | ||||||
18 | spare time, he served as the caretaker at Barber Cemetery; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, John Winkelman was preceded in death by his | ||||||
20 | parents; and

1 | WHEREAS, John Winkelman is survived by his wife, Lynn; his | ||||||
2 | daughters, Sherie (Nolan) ONeil, Tara (Jerremy) Swafford, and | ||||||
3 | Julie Winkelman; his stepsons, Matthew and Richard Altepeter; | ||||||
4 | his grandchildren, Samantha, Morgan, Elijah, Avery, Chloe, | ||||||
5 | Lilliana, and Chase; his brother, Joe Winkelman; his | ||||||
6 | mother-in-law, Jean Nepstad; his many nieces, nephews, | ||||||
7 | cousins, and close friends; and his brothers and sisters at the | ||||||
8 | fire and rescue departments he served; therefore, be it
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
10 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
11 | his family and friends, the passing of John C. Winkelman; and | ||||||
12 | be it further

13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
14 | presented to the family of John Winkelman as an expression of | ||||||
15 | our sympathy.
