2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Janet Elizabeth (Priniski) Sikma of | ||||||
4 | West Chicago, who passed away on November 19, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Janet Sikma was born to David and Patricia | ||||||
6 | Priniski in Elgin in June 21, 1977; she received her | ||||||
7 | bachelor's degree in Music Education from Augustana College in | ||||||
8 | 1999; she earned her master's degree in Music Education from | ||||||
9 | Northern Illinois University in 2014; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Janet Sikma began her teaching career in St. | ||||||
11 | Louis; she spent the last 19 years as the orchestra director | ||||||
12 | and mariachi teacher at West Chicago Elementary School | ||||||
13 | District 33, where she was instrumental in developing the | ||||||
14 | district's Music Department; and

15 | WHEREAS, Janet Sikma's most significant accomplishment was | ||||||
16 | building the Mariachi los Rayos de Leman Middle School | ||||||
17 | ensemble, one of the only mariachi groups open to middle | ||||||
18 | school students in the State, to meet the needs of her | ||||||
19 | community; her group has made a significant cultural impact on | ||||||
20 | the community and has even performed for Governor JB Pritzker | ||||||
21 | at the State Capitol on Latino Unity Day; and

1 | WHEREAS, Janet Sikma's passion and love for her students | ||||||
2 | was evident, and she will be remembered for her dedication to | ||||||
3 | them; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Janet Sikma is survived by her mother, Patricia | ||||||
5 | Priniski; her husband of 23 years, James E. Sikma; her | ||||||
6 | daughter, Lauren; her son, Eric; her sister, Carol (Priniski) | ||||||
7 | Bramstedt; and her brother, Scott Priniski; therefore, be it
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
9 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
10 | Janet Elizabeth (Priniski) Sikma and extend our sincere
| ||||||
11 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
| ||||||
12 | her; and be it further
| ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
14 | presented to the family of Janet Sikma as an expression of
our | ||||||
15 | deepest sympathy.
