SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bill Stewart of East Alton, who passed
4away on December 15, 2011; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born February 18, 1924 in McLeansboro, a
6son of Cloyd and Georgia (Green) Stewart; he married Hazel
7Nadine Williams on February 24, 1945 in Norris City; and
8 WHEREAS, He was a retired math teacher at Roxana High
9School and Lewis & Clark Community College; he also served on
10the Wood River Township Board for 9 terms totaling 28 years; he
11was a member of the East Alton School Board and was a
12basketball and track coach at Roxana High School; he loved
13fishing and basketball; he was also a member of the Vaughn Hill
14Church of Christ; and
15 WHEREAS, He was a World War II Army veteran and earned a
16Bronze Star and a Silver Star for his service, which included
17the invasion of Omaha Beach in Normandy, France; and
18 WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his
19brother; and his 3 sisters; and
20 WHEREAS, Bill Stewart is survived by his wife, Hazel; his

1daughter, Billie Whipple; his son, Stanley Kent Stewart; his
2granddaughter, Allison Renee Poindexter; and his nieces,
3nephews, and other extended family; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6his family and friends, the passing of Bill Stewart; and be it
7further
8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Bill Stewart as a symbol of our
10sincere sympathy.
