SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Paul S. Hursey of Urbana, who passed away
on March 14, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Paul Hursey was born in Urbana to Edgar Calhoun
and Caddy Gray Hursey on July 24, 1930; he graduated from
Urbana High School in 1948 and attended the University of
Illinois from 1948 to 1951; he served in the United States Army
and was selected to attend Officer Candidate School; after
completing his training, he was commissioned to a Second
Lieutenant, and served from 1951 to 1953; and
WHEREAS, Paul Hursey was Deputy Director of Personnel at
the University of Illinois in 1994; he served as President of
the board of CASA and the Director of Douglass Center in
Champaign; he also served as Urbana city alderman for the 3rd
Ward, the Executive Director of EOC in Champaign County, and
the Affirmative Action Officer and coordinator of labor
relations at the University of Illinois; he was also owner of
Lincoln Press Book Bindery in Urbana; and
WHEREAS, Paul Hursey was an avid golfer and a longtime
member of the DUC Hookers Golf Club; and

WHEREAS, Paul Hursey was preceded in death by his parents,
four brothers, and three sisters; and
WHEREAS, Paul Hursey is survived by his wife, Martha
Hursey; his children, Paul S. Hursey Jr., and Shirese Hursey;
his grandchildren, Paul III, Christian, Quentin, and Alyssa;
his great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Alexandra; and a host of
nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Paul S. Hursey, and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Paul Hursey as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
