1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The month of March is Women's History Month and | ||||||
3 | celebrates the significant contributions women of all races, | ||||||
4 | ethnicities, and backgrounds have made to the world; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Women play a critical role in the vitality and | ||||||
6 | diversity of our communities and are essential to ensuring | ||||||
7 | Illinois is well-represented; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, While the 20th century was a pivotal time of | ||||||
9 | growth for women in politics, women remain underrepresented in | ||||||
10 | male-dominated fields, and therefore, providing opportunities | ||||||
11 | to support women in public office is imperative; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Recognizing women in public office will bring | ||||||
13 | awareness to the fundamental necessity of their work and will | ||||||
14 | inspire other young people to serve their communities; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, This year, March 19 was national Celebrating Women | ||||||
16 | in Public Office Day which brought together women from all over | ||||||
17 | the world to celebrate the accomplishments and selfless service | ||||||
18 | of elected women; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March 28, |

1 | 2019 as Celebrating Women in Public Office Day, support the | ||||||
2 | success of women in public office, and encourage the people of | ||||||
3 | Illinois to observe this day with appropriate activities, | ||||||
4 | events, and programs; and be it further

5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to Jessica Becker, Executive Director of the | ||||||
7 | Conference of Women Legislators, as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
8 | esteem.
