1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Eugene Joseph Mattecheck of Moline, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on March 17, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck was born in Webster, South | ||||||
6 | Dakota to Joseph and Mayme (Premus) Mattecheck on June 13, | ||||||
7 | 1932; he married Barbara Jo Nelson in Moline on November 8, | ||||||
8 | 1952; he served in the United States Army for two years, one | ||||||
9 | year in Korea from 1953 to 1954, and was honorably discharged | ||||||
10 | in November of 1960; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck was employed at John Deere | ||||||
12 | Harvester for 12 years; he then joined the Moline Police | ||||||
13 | Department, where he became the first full-time range officer; | ||||||
14 | he proudly served the city for 16 years; during his time on the | ||||||
15 | force, he attended special tactical firearms training at the | ||||||
16 | F.B.I Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia; and

17 | WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck was affectionately known as | ||||||
18 | "EJ"; he enjoyed hunting, especially squirrels, crows, and | ||||||
19 | coyotes; he traveled to Wyoming to hunt prairie dogs, | ||||||
20 | antelope, and deer, making the trip 18 times in his lifetime; | ||||||
21 | he was a life-long member of the N.R.A. and a member of the | ||||||
22 | Milan Rifle Club for over 42 years; he also belonged to the |

1 | Illinois Police Association; he enjoyed visiting and having | ||||||
2 | coffee with friends and family; he was an excellent father and | ||||||
3 | a great role model, known to be generous to a fault; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck was preceded in death by his | ||||||
5 | son, Stephen Moore Mattecheck; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Eugene Mattecheck is survived by his wife of 68 | ||||||
7 | years, Barbara; his sons, Eugene Jr. (Clarisa) and Neal | ||||||
8 | (Debbie); his daughters, Gayla and Darla; his son, Paul | ||||||
9 | Robert; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his | ||||||
10 | brother, Roger (Teresa); and many nieces and nephews; | ||||||
11 | therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | Eugene Joseph Mattecheck and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
15 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
16 | further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Eugene Mattecheck as an expression | ||||||
19 | of our deepest sympathy.
