2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Jack L. Ostrem of Joliet; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Jack Ostrem was born on June 23, 1931 to Arthur K. | ||||||
5 | and Adeline (nee Rossi) Ostrem; he graduated from Joliet | ||||||
6 | Township High School (JTHS) in 1949 and attended Bradley | ||||||
7 | University and Joliet Jr. College (JJC); and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Jack Ostrem was employed by the Chicago Newspaper | ||||||
9 | Agency for 10 years, United States Rubber, Joliet Arsenal, and | ||||||
10 | the Argonne National Laboratory; he retired as a warehouse | ||||||
11 | supervisor from Northern Petrochemical/Lyondell in Morris, | ||||||
12 | with 23 years of service; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Jack Ostrem was always interested in sports and | ||||||
14 | high school and college football teams; he was JTHS wrestling | ||||||
15 | team captain, Central AAU Conference Wrestling Champion, Lt. | ||||||
16 | heavyweight, 1949, and Captain of the first JJC football team; | ||||||
17 | he coached Joliet Park District baseball teams and the YMCA | ||||||
18 | wrestling team, including 2 years as State Champions; he was a | ||||||
19 | sports writer for the Joliet Herald News and Spectator | ||||||
20 | newspapers; and

21 | WHEREAS, Jack Ostrem was a Friend of Bill W. for over 40 |

1 | years, a lifetime member of the Joliet Alano Club, a past | ||||||
2 | delegate to the National Institute on Aging, Panel 34, East | ||||||
3 | Central Region Trustee, 1997-2001, and Alcoholics Anonymous | ||||||
4 | World Services Chair; he was a past board member of The Joliet | ||||||
5 | Halfway House (now Stepping Stones) and the South Suburban | ||||||
6 | Council on Alcoholism, volunteering there for 25 years; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Jack Ostrem was preceded in death by his son, John | ||||||
8 | Ross Ostrem; his parents; his brother, Phillip Ostrem; and his | ||||||
9 | mother-in-law, Edith (Pence B.) Orr; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Jack Ostrem is survived by his wife of 65 years, | ||||||
11 | Emita Orr Ostrem; his daughter, Dawn (Charles) Fitzgerald; his | ||||||
12 | daughter-in-law, Deena Ostrem Brown; his nephews, Paul (Linda) | ||||||
13 | Ostrem, Tom (Judy) Ostrem, and Tim Ostrem; and his cousins, | ||||||
14 | Marilyn Capasse (Robert) Verden, Deloras Wilmette, Virginia | ||||||
15 | Rossi Zupancic, and Douglas Ostrem; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Jack L. Ostrem, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
20 | further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Jack Ostrem as an expression of our |
