1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Frances Hrovatin Troha of Waukegan, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on March 20, 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, She was born on January 27, 1910 in Waukegan, to | ||||||
6 | Slovenian immigrants Mary (nee Opeka) and Jacob Hrovatin; she | ||||||
7 | married the late August Robert Troha in 1947; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Cultural activities at Waukegan's Slovenic Hall | ||||||
9 | were the hub of her childhood; she became a life-time member | ||||||
10 | and later, an officer of the SNPJ Society; she was also an | ||||||
11 | active member and officer in the Waukegan Women's Club; her | ||||||
12 | strongest affiliation was her membership in Christ Episcopal | ||||||
13 | Church in Waukegan, where she taught Sunday school for forty | ||||||
14 | years and was an active participant in numerous Outreach | ||||||
15 | programs; through the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, she | ||||||
16 | established and administered a Naturalization Education and | ||||||
17 | Testing Center at Christ Episcopal Church; she also served as a | ||||||
18 | member of the Hunger Task Force and worked actively for Heifer | ||||||
19 | Project International; and

20 | WHEREAS, Family hardships did not allow her to complete her | ||||||
21 | high school education when she was a teen; through | ||||||
22 | determination and perseverance, she later earned a GED and |

1 | diplomas from dance schools in Chicago, which enabled her to | ||||||
2 | establish her own dance studio in Waukegan; she later taught | ||||||
3 | children's tap and ballet in her home, gave eighth grade | ||||||
4 | graduation dance lessons, and taught Ballroom Dance for the | ||||||
5 | Waukegan Adult Evening School; having earned many college | ||||||
6 | credit hours, she was asked to add GED and Adult Basic | ||||||
7 | Education courses to her Evening School teaching load, while | ||||||
8 | working in telephone sales at Sears Roebuck; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, By 1963, she earned a Provisional Teaching | ||||||
10 | Certificate and began teaching in the North Chicago Public | ||||||
11 | Schools; she received her BS in Education from Carthage College | ||||||
12 | in 1969 and transferred her teaching skills to the Waukegan | ||||||
13 | Public Schools; she earned her Masters Degree in Education from | ||||||
14 | National Louis University and retired in 1975; she continued to | ||||||
15 | teach evening school courses at the College of Lake County | ||||||
16 | until her mid-eighties; and

17 | WHEREAS, She actively enjoyed family gatherings, dining at | ||||||
18 | restaurants, traveling, walking, watching Channel 11, reading, | ||||||
19 | drawing, and communing with nature; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary | ||||||
21 | (Mitzi) Courser and Estelle Watts; and her brothers, Frank, | ||||||
22 | John, and Victor Hrovatin; and

1 | WHEREAS, Frances Troha is survived by her sister, Christine | ||||||
2 | (Tina) Henriksen; her many nieces and nephews; and her | ||||||
3 | children, Maryfrances Troha (Greg Thompson) and Thomas (Tim) | ||||||
4 | Troha, II (Rita); she was "Nana" to her granddaughters, | ||||||
5 | Meredith Maseman (Brian), Christina Harris (Don), Ashley | ||||||
6 | Butler-Troha, and Tess Troha-Thompson; and her 5 | ||||||
7 | great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Brayden Maseman, Abigail and | ||||||
8 | Jackson Harris, and Scarlett Butler-Troha; therefore, be it
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
10 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
11 | her family and friends, the passing of Frances Hrovatin Troha; | ||||||
12 | and be it further

13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
14 | presented to the family of Frances Hrovatin Troha as a symbol | ||||||
15 | of our sincere sympathy.
