2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Allan Ray "Al" Gieseking of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on October 23, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Al Gieseking was born to Edward and Alma | ||||||
6 | Gieseking on February 13, 1942; he graduated from Raymond High | ||||||
7 | School in 1960 and attended the University of Illinois from | ||||||
8 | 1960 to 1963; he graduated from Eastern Illinois University in | ||||||
9 | 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education and | ||||||
10 | from Sangamon State University with a Master of Arts in | ||||||
11 | Educational Administration; he married Nadine Nobbe at Trinity | ||||||
12 | Lutheran Church in Harvel on August 15, 1964; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Al Gieseking taught mathematics and coached all | ||||||
14 | sports at Edison Junior High from 1965 to 1974; he taught | ||||||
15 | mathematics and computer science at Lanphier High School from | ||||||
16 | 1975 to 1994, along with coaching freshman basketball in 1974 | ||||||
17 | and serving as varsity assistant to Bob Nika from 1975 to 1986; | ||||||
18 | the Lions played in three state finals during that time, in | ||||||
19 | 1977, 1983, and 1985, winning in 1985; he also served as the | ||||||
20 | mathematics department chairman from 1984 until his retirement | ||||||
21 | in 1994; he was employed as an income tax preparer at H&R Block | ||||||
22 | from 1995 to 2004; and

1 | WHEREAS, Al Gieseking was a member of Good Shepherd | ||||||
2 | Lutheran Church in Rochester; beginning in 1983, he served as | ||||||
3 | the organist for Good Shepherd and Immanuel Lutheran Church in | ||||||
4 | Riverton, along with holding various offices at Good Shepherd; | ||||||
5 | he and Nadine traveled extensively, with trips to Alaska, | ||||||
6 | Hawaii, Europe, New Zealand/Australia, the Caribbean, and | ||||||
7 | South America; he was passionate about his golf game and | ||||||
8 | enjoyed family vacations; and

9 | WHEREAS, Al Gieseking was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
10 | and his brothers, Dale and Darrell Gieseking; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Al Gieseking is survived by his wife, Nadine; his | ||||||
12 | daughter, Nancy (Scott) Harry; his sons, Eric (Laura) and | ||||||
13 | Jeffrey (Joanne) Gieseking; his grandchildren, Michael, | ||||||
14 | Whitney, and Luke Harry and Logan and Lana Gieseking; and his | ||||||
15 | brother, Marlyn (Marilyn) Gieseking; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Allan Ray "Al" Gieseking and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
19 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
20 | further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Al Gieseking as an expression of our |
