| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Richard L. "Dick" Kennedy of Moline, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on December 14, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy was born to Richard W. and Geraldine | ||||||
6 | Kennedy on November 9, 1935; he graduated from Rock Island | ||||||
7 | High School in 1953 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where | ||||||
8 | he served for three years in Korea and Japan at the end of the | ||||||
9 | Korean War; he married Judy Benson on May 22, 1957; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy worked at Farmall as a machinist; he | ||||||
11 | then began an apprenticeship as a plasterer and worked as a | ||||||
12 | journeyman for 25 years; he completed his professional career | ||||||
13 | as an elevator and escalator installer with Montgomery | ||||||
14 | Elevator; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy was an avid sports enthusiast; he | ||||||
16 | played fastpitch softball at a highly competitive level | ||||||
17 | throughout the 60s and 70s and then, for many years, focused on | ||||||
18 | coaching his children on their youth baseball and softball | ||||||
19 | teams; he volunteered with many different organizations; he | ||||||
20 | enjoyed cheering on his family and traveling all over the | ||||||
21 | country to participate in the important events in their lives; | ||||||
22 | he will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and |

1 | being a passionate husband, father, and grandfather; and

2 | WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy was preceded in death by his | ||||||
3 | parents; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dick Kennedy is survived by his wife of 63 years, | ||||||
5 | Judy; his children, Teresa (Don) Kennedy-Hohenstein, Tim | ||||||
6 | (Mary) Kennedy, Tom Kennedy, Tina (Cory) Kilcullen, and Tara | ||||||
7 | (Joe) Appel; his grandchildren, Serena Hohenstein, Lydia | ||||||
8 | Kennedy, Maggie Kennedy, Sam Kennedy, Coen Kilcullen, Gemma | ||||||
9 | Kilcullen, Sadie Appel, and Luke Appel; and his twin sisters, | ||||||
10 | Margaret Anderson and Marlowe Bogle; therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
13 | Richard L. "Dick" Kennedy and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
14 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
15 | it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Dick Kennedy as an expression of our | ||||||
18 | deepest sympathy.
