2 | WHEREAS, Illinois Route 148 is a State highway that runs | ||||||
3 | from Pulley's Mill in Southern Illinois north to Mount Vernon; | ||||||
4 | and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Travis Picantine of | ||||||
6 | Sesser passed away while in the service of this country on | ||||||
7 | November 10, 2009; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Army in 2007; he | ||||||
9 | completed his Basic Training and AIT at Fort Benning, Georgia; | ||||||
10 | he was stationed at Fort Drum, New York with the 10th Mountain | ||||||
11 | Division; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, He was an Infantryman with the 1-32 Charlie | ||||||
13 | Company; he returned to Fort Drum after his deployment to | ||||||
14 | Afghanistan; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, He received many medals and awards during his | ||||||
16 | military service, including the Army Commendation Medal, 2 Army | ||||||
17 | Achievement Medals with Oak Leaf, the National Defense Medal, | ||||||
18 | the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Star, the War on Terrorism | ||||||
19 | Service Medal, the United Nations Medal, the Basic Training | ||||||
20 | Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Medal, the Army | ||||||
21 | Presidential Unit Ribbon with Bronze Oak Leaf, the Army |

1 | Valorous Unit Citation, the Army Meritorious Unit Citation, the | ||||||
2 | Expert Marksman Badge, the Combat Infantry Badge, and an | ||||||
3 | Infantry Cord; and

4 | WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Travis Picantine is | ||||||
5 | remembered by his mother, Tammie Goessman Severs; his sister, | ||||||
6 | Megan Bowlin; his niece, Lily Marie Bowlin; his nephew, Travis | ||||||
7 | Ryan Bowlin, named in his honor after his passing; and his | ||||||
8 | grandparents, Harold Dean and Margaret Goessman; and

9 | WHEREAS, This fallen soldier deserves to be remembered by | ||||||
10 | the State of Illinois for his service to this country; | ||||||
11 | therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
14 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that the portion of Illinois Route 148 from | ||||||
15 | Christopher and through the Village of Sesser be renamed the | ||||||
16 | Army Specialist Travis Picantine Memorial Highway; and be it | ||||||
17 | further
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
19 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
20 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
21 | giving notice of the name of the Army Specialist Travis | ||||||
22 | Picantine Memorial Highway; and be it further
