HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Troy D. VanAken Ph.D. on
4being inaugurated as the 14th President of Elmhurst College;
5and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken began his term as President on July 1,
72016; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken has had an extensive and varied
9career, including experience as a senior administrator,
10mathematics professor, business entrepreneur, and athletic
11director; and
12 WHEREAS, Before coming to Elmhurst College, Dr. VanAken
13served as President and professor of mathematics at Thiel
14College; prior to his time at Thiel College, he served in a
15number of roles at Albion College; he began his career in
16higher education at the University of Evansville; and
17 WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken has served as a high school football
18and track coach; he has done committee work for the NCAA and
19collegiate athletic conferences; and
20 WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken is active in economic and community

1development; he started three successful technology-related
2companies; and
3 WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken is a native of Michigan; he and his
4wife, Dr. Annette VanAken, have two children; Trey and
5Gabriella; he holds a master's degree and a doctoral degree in
6mathematics from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor
7of Science from Hillsdale College; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10congratulate Troy D. VanAken Ph.D. on being inaugurated as the
1114th President of Elmhurst College; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Dr. VanAken as an expression of our esteem and
14respect.
