| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Troy D. VanAken Ph.D. on | ||||||
| 4 | being inaugurated as the 14th President of Elmhurst College; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken began his term as President on July 1, | ||||||
| 7 | 2016; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken has had an extensive and varied | ||||||
| 9 | career, including experience as a senior administrator, | ||||||
| 10 | mathematics professor, business entrepreneur, and athletic | ||||||
| 11 | director; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Before coming to Elmhurst College, Dr. VanAken | ||||||
| 13 | served as President and professor of mathematics at Thiel | ||||||
| 14 | College; prior to his time at Thiel College, he served in a | ||||||
| 15 | number of roles at Albion College; he began his career in | ||||||
| 16 | higher education at the University of Evansville; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken has served as a high school football | ||||||
| 18 | and track coach; he has done committee work for the NCAA and | ||||||
| 19 | collegiate athletic conferences; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken is active in economic and community | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | development; he started three successful technology-related | ||||||
| 2 | companies; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Dr. VanAken is a native of Michigan; he and his | ||||||
| 4 | wife, Dr. Annette VanAken, have two children; Trey and | ||||||
| 5 | Gabriella; he holds a master's degree and a doctoral degree in | ||||||
| 6 | mathematics from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor | ||||||
| 7 | of Science from Hillsdale College; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | congratulate Troy D. VanAken Ph.D. on being inaugurated as the | ||||||
| 11 | 14th President of Elmhurst College; and be it further
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 13 | presented to Dr. VanAken as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 14 | respect.
