| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Bassam | ||||||
4 | Hanna Naoum; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bassam Naoum was born in Amman, Jordan, on | ||||||
6 | February 22, 1951; his parents were Hanna Naoum and Zakieh | ||||||
7 | Ibrahim; he married Phoebe Naoum (nee Tudor) in 1978 in | ||||||
8 | Huntsville, Alabama; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Bassam Naoum came to America in 1970 in search of | ||||||
10 | an education and a new life; after arriving in Chicago, he | ||||||
11 | subsequently attended Snead State Junior College in Alabama; | ||||||
12 | during this time, he alternated between working in Chicago and | ||||||
13 | taking classes in Alabama each semester; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Two months after their marriage, Bassam Naoum and | ||||||
15 | his wife moved to Chicago, where he graduated from DePaul | ||||||
16 | University; for the next 10 years, he worked within the hotel | ||||||
17 | industry and spent his free time traveling, enjoying | ||||||
18 | restaurants, and socializing with his friends; in 1988, Bassam | ||||||
19 | and Phoebe's first child, Noelle, was born, followed by their | ||||||
20 | second child, Farris, in 1990; and

21 | WHEREAS, In order to pursue his dream of owning a business, |

1 | Bassam Naoum opened his first store in Cabrini Green in 1993 | ||||||
2 | called "Ollie's", a name which stuck and became his nickname; | ||||||
3 | he quickly became a part of the Cabrini community and | ||||||
4 | participated in various events, such as the "Back to School | ||||||
5 | Picnic" and the community Thanksgiving Dinner; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Bassam Naoum was well known in his neighborhood | ||||||
7 | for helping those in need of help in any way possible, | ||||||
8 | emotionally or financially; he will be remembered fondly by his | ||||||
9 | family as a loving father and husband who would do anything for | ||||||
10 | his family and friends and as a gregarious man with a wonderful | ||||||
11 | sense of humor; therefore, be it
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
13 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
14 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Bassam | ||||||
15 | Hanna Naoum; and be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Bassam Naoum as an expression of our | ||||||
18 | sympathy.
