| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of | ||||||
4 | Montgomery as they celebrate the village's 175th anniversary; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Daniel Gray and his family came to the area in | ||||||
7 | 1835, arriving from Montgomery County, New York; they laid | ||||||
8 | claim to a large area of land, a portion of which later was | ||||||
9 | incorporated as the Village of Montgomery in 1858; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The area was originally known as Graytown when | ||||||
11 | settled by Daniel Gray in 1835; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Today more than 17,000 people call the Village of | ||||||
13 | Montgomery home; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, A small home that was one of the earliest | ||||||
15 | constructed by Daniel Gray was restored in 2010 and is now | ||||||
16 | known as Settler's Cottage; today it is used as a museum, | ||||||
17 | displaying items from the early days and history of Montgomery; | ||||||
18 | therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
20 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |

2 | occasion and wish them continued success in the future; and be | ||||||

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to Marilyn Michelini, Village President of | ||||||
6 | Montgomery, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
