| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate St. John of the | ||||||
| 4 | Cross Parish School for receiving the 2012 U.S. Department of | ||||||
| 5 | Education National Blue Ribbon School Award; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, St. John of the Cross Parish School is a Catholic | ||||||
| 7 | school located in Western Springs; the principal is Kathleen | ||||||
| 8 | Gorman and the pastor, Rev. David P. Dowdle; its assistant | ||||||
| 9 | principals are Zita Wheeler and Tom Clausing; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was | ||||||
| 11 | established in 1982 to recognize public and private schools | ||||||
| 12 | boasting high or significantly improved achievement; the | ||||||
| 13 | program's goal is to identify attributes of thriving American | ||||||
| 14 | schools and to replicate their success in other schools; St | ||||||
| 15 | John's is one of only 50 private schools across the Nation to | ||||||
| 16 | be named a National Blue Ribbon School this year; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, St. John of the Cross Parish School provides a | ||||||
| 18 | safe and dynamic Catholic environment where faith is nourished | ||||||
| 19 | and knowledge grows; it was founded in 1961 and has maintained | ||||||
| 20 | a strong Catholic identity and strong academics throughout its | ||||||
| 21 | history; it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011; it has | ||||||
| 22 | become one of the largest Catholic schools in Chicago's | ||||||

| 1 | Archdiocese; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon School Award recognizes | ||||||
| 3 | the time and hard work of teachers and students, as well as the | ||||||
| 4 | critical support and involvement of the students' parents and | ||||||
| 5 | the entire parish community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 7 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 8 | we celebrate and honor St. John of the Cross Parish School on | ||||||
| 9 | receiving the 2012 U.S. Department of Education National Blue | ||||||
| 10 | Ribbon School Award; and be it further
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 12 | presented to St. John of the Cross Parish School as an | ||||||
| 13 | expression of our respect and esteem.
