1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Paul | ||||||
4 | Vincent Graves of Chicago, who recently passed away; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Paul Vincent Graves was born October 14, 1961 in | ||||||
6 | Chicago to the union
of Melvin and Annabelle Graves; Paul was | ||||||
7 | the fifth blessing to this family; his father, Melvin Graves | ||||||
8 | Sr., and his brothers, Melvin Graves Jr. and Harold Graves, | ||||||
9 | preceded him in death; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Paul Vincent Graves confessed Christ in early age | ||||||
11 | under the leadership of Elder Ace Ware Jr. and the Faith Full | ||||||
12 | Gospel Center; throughout his life, Paul remained faithful to | ||||||
13 | the Lord's church and served Him in many capacities; he was a | ||||||
14 | member of New Covenant Life Oakwood Church, under the pastorate | ||||||
15 | of John Hannah, until his passing; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Paul Vincent Graves attended Hook Way Elementary | ||||||
17 | School, graduated from Harlan High School, and continued | ||||||
18 | studying art at Columbia College; he worked at UPS and later | ||||||
19 | worked for Amtrak Railroad from 1984 up to his disability; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, He was an artistic man and romantic at heart; he | ||||||
21 | was an avid collector of unique artwork and was a member of the |

1 | 1st Black Inventors Association of Chicago; he was a | ||||||
2 | professional artist with numerous pieces on exhibit; his | ||||||
3 | artwork is currently being displayed in the museum of Science | ||||||
4 | and Industry as a part of the annual Black Creatively exhibit; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Paul Vincent Graves was married at an early age to | ||||||
7 | Iris; he was a world traveler, enjoyed great food, movies, | ||||||
8 | music, and the finer things in life; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, In 2004, Paul underwent drastic surgery that saved | ||||||
10 | his life, however, it left him with temporary paralysis; | ||||||
11 | recently Paul demonstrated to his family, after much physical | ||||||
12 | therapy, that he was able to walk yet again; his life and | ||||||
13 | legacy of love will live on in the hearts of his family, | ||||||
14 | including his daughter, Clarissa; his mother, Annabelle | ||||||
15 | Graves; his brothers, Babatunda (Denise) and Raynard (Lonnie); | ||||||
16 | his sister-in-law, Alma; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, | ||||||
17 | nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
20 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Paul | ||||||
21 | Vincent Graves; and be it further
| ||||||
22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |

1 | presented to the family of Paul Vincent Graves as a symbol of | ||||||
2 | our sincere sympathy.
