HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Paul
Vincent Graves of Chicago, who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Paul Vincent Graves was born October 14, 1961 in
Chicago to the union of Melvin and Annabelle Graves; Paul was
the fifth blessing to this family; his father, Melvin Graves
Sr., and his brothers, Melvin Graves Jr. and Harold Graves,
preceded him in death; and
WHEREAS, Paul Vincent Graves confessed Christ in early age
under the leadership of Elder Ace Ware Jr. and the Faith Full
Gospel Center; throughout his life, Paul remained faithful to
the Lord's church and served Him in many capacities; he was a
member of New Covenant Life Oakwood Church, under the pastorate
of John Hannah, until his passing; and
WHEREAS, Paul Vincent Graves attended Hook Way Elementary
School, graduated from Harlan High School, and continued
studying art at Columbia College; he worked at UPS and later
worked for Amtrak Railroad from 1984 up to his disability; and
WHEREAS, He was an artistic man and romantic at heart; he
was an avid collector of unique artwork and was a member of the

1st Black Inventors Association of Chicago; he was a
professional artist with numerous pieces on exhibit; his
artwork is currently being displayed in the museum of Science
and Industry as a part of the annual Black Creatively exhibit;
and
WHEREAS, Paul Vincent Graves was married at an early age to
Iris; he was a world traveler, enjoyed great food, movies,
music, and the finer things in life; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, Paul underwent drastic surgery that saved
his life, however, it left him with temporary paralysis;
recently Paul demonstrated to his family, after much physical
therapy, that he was able to walk yet again; his life and
legacy of love will live on in the hearts of his family,
including his daughter, Clarissa; his mother, Annabelle
Graves; his brothers, Babatunda (Denise) and Raynard (Lonnie);
his sister-in-law, Alma; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Paul
Vincent Graves; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

presented to the family of Paul Vincent Graves as a symbol of
our sincere sympathy.
