2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Shawn | ||||||
4 | Denise Johnson, a long-time resident of Waukegan, who passed | ||||||
5 | away on September 20, 2020; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Shawn Johnson was licensed as an instructor in | ||||||
7 | cosmetology and as a nail technician; she was the CEO and | ||||||
8 | founder of the Image Beauty Institute, the first and only State | ||||||
9 | of Illinois Department of Regulations Nail Technology School in | ||||||
10 | Waukegan; opening in December of 2014, the Image Beauty | ||||||
11 | Institute has graduated over 30 students who have successfully | ||||||
12 | passed the State of Illinois State Board Exam to become | ||||||
13 | professionally licensed nail technicians; five of these | ||||||
14 | graduates have opened beautiful salons around the Lake County | ||||||
15 | area; she also developed, published, and founded the
From Jails | ||||||
16 | to Nails Life Management Skills Reentry Program; this | ||||||
17 | curriculum-based program helps support individuals with | ||||||
18 | non-violent convictions transition back into the community | ||||||
19 | after incarceration; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Shawn Johnson will especially be remembered for | ||||||
21 | volunteering a great deal of her time to help make the city a | ||||||
22 | better place to live not only for herself and her family but | ||||||
23 | for women having problems with recidivism and those that lacked |

1 | employable job skills; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Shawn Johnson is survived by her four children, | ||||||
3 | Stephanie, Stephen, TraMane, and Mark;
her six grandchildren; | ||||||
4 | her identical twin sister, Dawn Johnson; her oldest sister, | ||||||
5 | Charlene Valdez-Simelton; and
her
mother, Ethel Lene Rogers; | ||||||
6 | therefore, be it

7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
8 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
9 | we mourn the passing of
Shawn Denise Johnson and extend our | ||||||
10 | sincere
condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
11 | and loved
her; and be it further

12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
13 | presented to the family of Shawn Johnson as an expression of

14 | our deepest sympathy.
