HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The American Psychological Association has warned
3against the detrimental effects of violent video games on
4adolescents; and
5 WHEREAS, Studies have showed a correlation between violent
6video games and increased attention deficit problems,
7violence, and addiction; and
8 WHEREAS, 72% of American households play computer or video
9games, as reported by the Entertainment Software Association;
10and
11 WHEREAS, 91% of American children aged 2 to 17 play
12computer or video games, as reported by the NPD Group; and
13 WHEREAS, Since 2009, there has been a 9% increase of
14American children aged 2 to 17 that play video games, with an
15approximate 65 million children currently playing video games,
16as reported by the NPD Group; and
17 WHEREAS, The American Psychological Association has
18reported that, on average, boys spend 13 hours playing video
19games a week and girls spend 5 hours playing video games a
20week; and

1 WHEREAS, The Entertainment Software Ratings Board rates
2games bases on their age appropriateness; therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we urge parents to carefully monitor their children's use of
6all media and encourage that they assist in controlling the
7video games that their children play.
