2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Head Coach Kurt | ||||||
4 | Hasenstein of the Glenbrook South High School cross country | ||||||
5 | and track and field teams, the Titans, on the occasion of his | ||||||
6 | retirement; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Glenbrook South High School, | ||||||
8 | Coach Hasenstein graduated from Peoria Heights High School in | ||||||
9 | Peoria Heights, where he competed in the IHSA as a three-sport | ||||||
10 | athlete; he then attended North Central College in Naperville, | ||||||
11 | competing as a track and field athlete, and was named a | ||||||
12 | two-time NCAA Division 3 All-American in the decathlon and a | ||||||
13 | four-time champion of the College Conference of Illinois and | ||||||
14 | Wisconsin (CCIW); as a graduate assistant, he coached track | ||||||
15 | and field and cross country at Minnesota State University, | ||||||
16 | Mankato for two years; and

17 | WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein, better known as "Coach Hass" to | ||||||
18 | athletes, began teaching PE and coaching cross country at | ||||||
19 | Glenbrook South High School in Glenview in August 1991; during | ||||||
20 | his tenure, he has served as head coach of both the Glenbrook | ||||||
21 | South High School cross country and track and field teams for | ||||||
22 | more than two decades; and

1 | WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has led both teams to victory | ||||||
2 | across multiple events and seasons; in cross country, he has | ||||||
3 | coached three state-qualifying teams, with the highest scoring | ||||||
4 | achieving a 7th place finish in 1991, and several | ||||||
5 | state-qualifying individual runners; in track and field, he | ||||||
6 | has produced state-qualifying athletes for all but five of his | ||||||
7 | 33 seasons as coach; indeed, he has guided athletes towards | ||||||
8 | achieving state championships in the 300m hurdles, discus, and | ||||||
9 | twice in the 100m dash, and he led teams that placed fifth | ||||||
10 | overall in the State in both 2021 and 2022; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has given back to the community | ||||||
12 | through organizing an annual fundraising run for the local | ||||||
13 | food pantry that has been held every October for the past 26 | ||||||
14 | years, which has raised more than $100,000 overall; and

15 | WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has proven his commitment to his | ||||||
16 | student athletes through his uncanny ability to remember all | ||||||
17 | his former athletes and their respective accomplishments | ||||||
18 | without hesitation; and

19 | WHEREAS, Coach Hasenstein has conducted himself as a Titan | ||||||
20 | in every sense of the word, and he deserves to have every honor | ||||||
21 | and recognition bestowed upon him for his years of service; | ||||||
