1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Invest in Kids program was enacted in 2017 by | ||||||
3 | the Illinois General Assembly to
create a scholarship option | ||||||
4 | for economically-challenged young people and their families; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Scholarship benefits provided to young people and | ||||||
7 | their families through the Invest in
Kids program requires the | ||||||
8 | participation of the private sector; benefactors are | ||||||
9 | encouraged, through a
State income tax credit, to make | ||||||
10 | donations to scholarship granting organizations; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The Invest in Kids law requires that this | ||||||
12 | scholarship money go to the neediest students
first; as a | ||||||
13 | result, these organizations fund scholarship programs that are | ||||||
14 | targeted to economically-challenged, promising, gifted | ||||||
15 | students; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, For Yvonne Camarillo's family, they now can have | ||||||
17 | their child Adriana attend
kindergarten at St. Agnes of Bohemia | ||||||
18 | School in the Little Village community of Chicago,
providing | ||||||
19 | her a high quality school that fits her needs in a safe and | ||||||
20 | culturally appropriate
environment; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, For Lakisha Partridge's family, the scholarship |

| |||||||
1 | allows their 3rd grade child, Jeremiah,
to flee constant | ||||||
2 | bullying in his school and now attend St. Leonard School in | ||||||
3 | Berwyn, where he is treated with respect and is placed at his | ||||||
4 | appropriate high academic level; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Melody Healy now has her daughter, Ariana, | ||||||
6 | attending Alpine Academy in Rockford as a first-grade student, | ||||||
7 | where she receives a quality education at an opportune time | ||||||
8 | given
her family's personal and financial challenges; the tax | ||||||
9 | credit scholarship is a blessing; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Shadier Gheith's children, Maryam, Sarra, and | ||||||
11 | Shaymah, attend the Aqsa School in
Bridgeview, providing them | ||||||
12 | with the community values and beliefs that are consistent with | ||||||
13 | their family's faith; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, For Elliot Cohen and his children, Meira, Shalom, | ||||||
15 | Chaya, and Binyomin, who attend
various schools in the Agudath | ||||||
16 | Israel Network, the children's scholarships represent an | ||||||
17 | opportunity for education as part of a community; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Catchet Rodriguez's family is now able to have | ||||||
19 | their two children, Alivia and Isaac
(5th and 2nd grade | ||||||
20 | respectively), attend St. Mark School in Peoria without the | ||||||
21 | financial
burden to the entire family, while knowing that their | ||||||
22 | children are receiving the best education available; and

1 | WHEREAS, Strong families and strong educational | ||||||
2 | achievement
are essential elements for Illinois and its people | ||||||
3 | as our State deals with its challenges of jobs, life,
and | ||||||
4 | productivity, and the Invest in Kids program is targeted to | ||||||
5 | these challenges; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
7 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
8 | the Invest in Kids program provides hope to young people and
| ||||||
9 | their families throughout Illinois and should be fully funded | ||||||
10 | with no cutbacks in the FY20 Illinois
budget; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That this resolution be delivered to Senate | ||||||
12 | President John Cullerton and Speaker of the House Michael J. | ||||||
13 | Madigan.
