1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, On April 23, 1908, Congress authorized a Medical | ||||||
3 | Reserve Corps-a reserve force of civilian medical officers who | ||||||
4 | could be ordered to active duty by the Secretary of War during | ||||||
5 | a time of national emergency to save the lives of American | ||||||
6 | soldiers on the battlefield; and

7 | WHEREAS, What began as a strategic reserve force of 160 | ||||||
8 | physicians in the 20th century, is now a 21st century | ||||||
9 | operational force with an authorized end strength of 200,950 | ||||||
10 | U.S. Army Reserve soldiers, including over 6,680 U.S. Army | ||||||
11 | Reserve soldiers in 30 locations in the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The U.S. Army Reserve has responded with honor and | ||||||
13 | valor to the call of the nation in times of need with over | ||||||
14 | 12,000 Army Reserve soldiers now serving overseas; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The families and employers of the soldiers also | ||||||
16 | contribute greatly to their success; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we proclaim April 23, 2013, as United States Army Reserve Day | ||||||
20 | in the State of Illinois, honor our past and current | ||||||
21 | citizen-soldiers for their service, and thank the friends, |
