2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence | ||||||
4 | "Red" Lowery, Jr. of Benton, who passed away on January 16, | ||||||
5 | 2015; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. was born in Benton on January | ||||||
7 | 18, 1926 to Clarence Lowery, Sr. and Bess (nee Sharp) Biggs; he | ||||||
8 | attended Benton Consolidated High School, where he was | ||||||
9 | President of the Class of 1944 and an All-State fullback for | ||||||
10 | the Benton Rangers football team; he served in the United | ||||||
11 | States Army during World War II and was involved in the Battle | ||||||
12 | of Luzon in the Philippines, during which, on May 11, 1945, he | ||||||
13 | sustained injuries in battle and was awarded the Purple Heart; | ||||||
14 | following his service, he returned home and attended Erskine | ||||||
15 | College, where he played football and basketball; he married | ||||||
16 | Kathleen Collins on May 20, 1953; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. worked as a teacher and coach | ||||||
18 | before joining the Mobil Oil Company as a regional salesman, | ||||||
19 | receiving several national awards for excellence over his | ||||||
20 | career before retiring; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. was an active member of the | ||||||
22 | Benton community,
serving on the Benton Consolidated High |

1 | School board for more than
a decade and on the Benton City | ||||||
2 | Council; he was a candidate for
State Representative in 1970; | ||||||
3 | he was also a member of
the Benton Veterans of Foreign Wars | ||||||
4 | Post 2671, the Benton American Legion
Post 280, and the Benton | ||||||
5 | Masonic Lodge 64 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; he was a | ||||||
6 | proud alumnus of Erskine College and was inducted into its Hall | ||||||
7 | of Fame in 1982 for outstanding performance in football and | ||||||
8 | basketball; and | ||||||
9 | |||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. enjoyed keeping up with | ||||||
11 | current events and traveling; he visited countries all over the | ||||||
12 | world and made
frequent trips to Las Vegas; and

13 | WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. was preceded in death by his | ||||||
14 | parents; his brother, Max
Lowery; and his sister, Helen Franko; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Clarence Lowery, Jr. is survived by his wife of 61 | ||||||
17 | years, Kathleen
Lowery; his 4 children, Lynn Alligood and
| ||||||
18 | husband, Bob, Cindy Lowery, Clarence Clyde "C.C."
Lowery and | ||||||
19 | wife, Heidi, and Rob
Lowery and wife, Lisa; his grandchildren,
| ||||||
20 | Kathleen Wubker and husband, Brian, Olivia Lowery, Christopher | ||||||
21 | Lowery, Clarence Wade Lowery, Ryan Lowery, and
Mackenzie | ||||||
22 | Lowery; his great-grandchildren,

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
3 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
4 | mourn the passing of Clarence "Red" Lowery, Jr., and extend our | ||||||
5 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
6 | and loved him; and be it further

7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Clarence Lowery, Jr. as an | ||||||
9 | expression of our deepest sympathy.
