HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar
3to the lining of the uterus, which should only be located
4inside the uterus, is found elsewhere in the body; and
5 WHEREAS, It is generally acknowledged that an estimated
610% of all women during their reproductive years are affected
7by endometriosis; this equates to 176 million women throughout
8the world who have to deal with the symptoms of endometriosis
9during the prime years of their lives, seven to ten million of
10whom are in the U.S.; and
11 WHEREAS, Many women suffer for seven to ten years before
12being properly diagnosed and treated for the disease; 30 to
1340% of women with endometriosis are infertile; and
14 WHEREAS, Endometriosis costs the U.S. over $87 billion a
15year in medical costs and work productivity; and
16 WHEREAS, Federal research dollars for endometriosis amount
17to approximately 82 cents per patient every year; there is no
18cure, but treatment can reduce the intensity of the symptoms;
19and
20 WHEREAS, Every 16 seconds a baby girl is born in the U.S.

1who will have endometriosis; and
2 WHEREAS, Endometriosis causes patients enormous pain, but
3many are ineligible for disability benefits despite how much
4it can disrupt their working life; there is a history of
5providing poor treatment for this condition, as many minimize
6the seriousness of this problem; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we urge the citizens of Illinois to increase their
10understanding of endometriosis, and we urge the General
11Assembly to pursue legislation to provide more comprehensive
12coverage for this frequently misdiagnosed debilitating
13condition.
