HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, There have been several incidents at the
3University of Illinois at Chicago to illustrate the problem of
4institutional racism; and
5 WHEREAS, It was reported that there were continued issues
6with minority students at the University of Illinois at
7Chicago's College of Medicine on April 27, 1998; and
8 WHEREAS, It was reported that a claim of gender
9discrimination was being litigated between a member of the
10faculty and the University of Illinois at Chicago on April 5,
112022; and
12 WHEREAS, It was reported that a employee was suing the
13University of Illinois at Chicago due to the University
14creating a hostile workplace through racial harassment on
15February 11, 2019; and
16 WHEREAS, on November 21, 2022 it was reported that a
17dentistry professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago
18used racist imagery in teaching students and made racist
19comments; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we urge the University of Illinois at Chicago to implement
3policies and consequences to address and end institutional
4racism; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6delivered to the President of the University of Illinois
7System and the Chancellor of the University of Illinois at
8Chicago.
