  2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  COMMUNITY VIOLENCE TASK FORCE.
  1  2    1.  The attorney general shall establish a statewide
  1  3 community violence task force to investigate violence in
  1  4 communities, including gun violence, to review proposed
  1  5 solutions to such violence, and to develop and make
  1  6 recommendations for establishing safe communities free from
  1  7 violence throughout the state.  The members of the task force
  1  8 shall include stakeholders in the criminal justice system,
  1  9 community leaders, local government officials, and legislators.
  1 10    2.  The community violence task force shall submit a report
  1 11 containing recommendations to the general assembly by January
  1 12 15, 2017.
  1 13                           EXPLANATION
  1 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 15 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 16    This bill provides that the attorney general shall establish
  1 17 a community violence task force to investigate violence in
  1 18 communities around the state, to review proposed solutions to
  1 19 such violence, and to develop and make recommendations for
  1 20 establishing safe communities free from violence throughout the
  1 21 state.
  1 22    The bill provides that the members of the task force shall
  1 23 include stakeholders in the criminal justice system, community
  1 24 leaders, local government officials, and legislators.
  1 25    The bill requires the task force to submit a report
  1 26 containing recommendations to the general assembly by January
  1 27 15, 2017.
