Bill Title: A bill for an act regarding driver's licenses, including the exemption of certain farmers and hired help operating a special truck from the requirement to be licensed as a chauffeur and the optional inclusion of a mark reflecting autism spectrum disorder status on a person's driver's license. H.F. 2372 Section 1. Section 321.1, subsection 8, Code 2020, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . 0e. A farmer or the farmer’s hired help 3 is not a chauffeur when operating a special truck owned by 4 the farmer and used exclusively to transport the farmer’s own 5 products or property to a destination no more than one hundred 6 miles from farmland owned or rented by the farmer as measured 7 by calculating the straight-line distance between the farmland 8 and the destination. 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 Current law provides that a person who operates a motor 13 vehicle in the transportation of passengers for wages, 14 compensation, or hire, or who operates a truck tractor, road 15 tractor, or motor truck weighing more than 16,000 pounds, 16 is considered a chauffeur subject to specific driver’s 17 licensing requirements. This bill amends the definition of 18 “chauffeur” to exclude a farmer or the farmer’s hired help 19 who is operating a special truck owned by the farmer and 20 used exclusively to transport the farmer’s own products or 21 property to a destination no more than 100 miles from farmland 22 owned or rented by the farmer as measured by calculating 23 the straight-line distance between the farmland and the 24 destination. 25 -1- LSB 5134HV (2) 88 mo/ns 1/ 1
