House File 2365 - Introduced HOUSE FILE BY COMMITTEE ON VETERANS AFFAIRS (SUCCESSOR TO HSB 582) A BILL FOR 1 An Act waiving certain hunter education requirements for 2 residents who are active duty military personnel or 3 honorably discharged veterans. 4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: TLSB 5955HV (1) 86 av/nh PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 483A.27, subsection 1, Code 2016, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. a. A person born after January 1, 1972, shall not 1 4 obtain a hunting license unless the person has satisfactorily 1 5 completed a hunter education course approved by the commission. 1 6 A person who is eleven years of age or more may enroll in an 1 7 approved hunter education course, but a person who is eleven 1 8 years of age and who has successfully completed the course 1 9 shall be issued a certificate of completion which becomes valid 1 10 on the person's twelfth birthday. A certificate of completion 1 11 from an approved hunter education course issued in this state, 1 12 or a certificate issued by another state, country, or province 1 13 for completion of a course that meets the standards adopted by 1 14 the international hunter education association == United States 1 15 of America, is valid for the requirements of this section. 1 16 b. Notwithstanding paragraph "a", the requirement that 1 17 a person must have a certificate of completion of a hunter 1 18 education course in order to obtain a hunting license is waived 1 19 for a person who is a member of the national guard, reserve, or 1 20 regular component of the armed forces of the United States or 1 21 for a person who was a member of the national guard, reserve, 1 22 or regular component of the armed forces of the United States 1 23 and was honorably discharged. 1 24 EXPLANATION 1 25 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 26 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 27 This bill provides that a person who is a member of the 1 28 national guard, reserve, or regular component of the armed 1 29 forces of the United States, or who was a member of the 1 30 national guard, reserve, or regular component of the armed 1 31 forces of the United States and was honorably discharged, is 1 32 not required to complete a hunter education course in order to 1 33 obtain a hunting license.
