H.F. 2275 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 280.36 Coordination of behavioral 1 health resources. 2 1. The board of directors of a school district and the 3 authorities in charge of each accredited nonpublic school that 4 is a middle or high school shall designate an employee of each 5 middle school and high school as a behavioral health resource 6 coordinator for the school. 7 2. The duties of a behavioral health resource coordinator 8 shall include but are not limited to the following: 9 a. Providing information to students and school employees 10 regarding mental health resources available at the school. 11 b. At the direction of the board or authorities, overseeing 12 and serving as a point of contact for any activities or 13 initiatives to improve or provide access to mental health 14 resources to students and school employees at the school, 15 including but not limited to activities authorized by chapter 16 280A; employee training opportunities relating to mental 17 health, including but not limited to training required 18 by section 279.70; and any other state, local, or school 19 activities or initiatives. 20 3. Area education agencies and the department of education 21 shall provide assistance to behavioral health resource 22 coordinators in carrying out the duties provided in this 23 section and disseminate best practices regarding mental health 24 resources to behavioral health resource coordinators on a 25 statewide basis. 26 EXPLANATION 27 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 28 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 29 This bill requires a school board and the authorities in 30 charge of an accredited nonpublic school that is a middle or 31 high school to designate an employee of each middle school and 32 high school as a behavioral health resource coordinator for the 33 school. 34 The bill provides duties of behavioral health resource 35 -1- LSB 6222YH (2) 90 je/jh 1/ 2
