SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the department of health to preserve funding programs for lgbtq+ health care services, including the hawaii island hiv/aids foundation, AND TO ASSIST THE HAWAII ISLAND HIV/AIDS FOUNDATION IN APPLYING FOR FUNDING TO MAINTAIN its west hawaii OPERATIONS located in KAILUA-KONA.

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island HIV/AIDS Foundation (HIHAF) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides coordination of services to all persons on the island of Hawaii affected by HIV/AIDS through two offices located on the eastside and westside of the island; and

 

     WHEREAS, the mission of HIHAF is to assist those affected by HIV/AIDS with maximizing their quality of life, ending the spread of HIV, and caring and advocating for others in the fight against related diseases; and

 

     WHEREAS, a currently proposed sixty-four percent cut to HIHAF's budget will result in the closure of the HIHAF west Hawaii operation located in Kailua-Kona; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2021, that the Department of Health is requested to preserve funding for LGBTQ+ health care services, including the HIHAF, and to assist the HIHAF in applying for funding to maintain its west Hawaii operations located in Kailua-Kona; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Health.
