A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO THE HAWAII NATIONAL GUARD.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 121, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§121-    Hawaii school liaison officer.  (a)  There is established within the department of defense, the position of school liaison officer which shall be a permanent, full-time position exempt from chapter 76.  The school liaison officer shall facilitate interaction between the Hawaii national guard community and the department of education.

     (b)  The school liaison officer shall be eligible to receive the benefits of any state or federal employee benefit program generally applicable to officers and employees of the State."

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2010-2011 for the establishment of one full-time equivalent (1.00 FTE) permanent school liaison officer in the department of defense to act as a representative of the department of defense in meetings with the department of education's military liaison.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of defense for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2010.
