A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO EDUCATION.
BE IT
ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. (a) The department of education shall develop a reorganization plan to provide students and schools with centralized transportation services.
(b) The department of education shall develop a plan to provide students with more locally produced food. The provision of locally produced food that is purchased for school meals shall increase five per cent annually until 2026.
(c) The department of education shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations relating to the plans to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2022. This report shall include:
(1) Food service delivery models customized to the needs of schools broken down by complex area;
(2) Information on how reorganization will look for efficiencies by reducing food waste, increasing school meal participation, and promoting a healthy menu; and
(3) Projected cost-savings and increased student benefits such as healthier diets and increased nutrition knowledge.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon on July 1, 2050.
