A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF HAWAII TO LEGALIZE SLOT MACHINE GAMBLING AND gambling by VIDEO POKER MACHINES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to propose an amendment to article XVI, of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii to legalize slot machine gambling and gambling by video poker machines as may be provided by law.

     SECTION 2.  Article XVI of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"MACHINE GAMBLING

     Section    .  Gambling by use of slot machines and video poker machines shall be legal; provided that the gambling is limited to designated resort areas and to airports within a county or counties as determined by the legislature by law."

    SECTION 3.  The question to be printed on the ballot shall be as follows:

"Shall gambling by use of slot machines and video poker machines be legal in Hawaii if the gambling is limited to designated resort areas and to airports in a county or counties as determined by the legislature by law?"

     SECTION 4.  New constitutional material is underscored.

     SECTION 5.  This amendment shall take effect upon compliance with article XVII, section 3, of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii.
