HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

recognizing chad buck, founder AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of the hawaii foodservice alliance, LLC, for being a beacon of light and hope by IMMEDIATELY DISTRIBUTING aid to the LAHAINA WILDFIRE DISASTER VICTIMS DURING THEir DARKEST HOURS.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, CHAD BUCK founded the Hawaii Foodservice Alliance, LLC (HFA), in 2002, with the ambitious goal of lowering the cost of goods for businesses and families struggling in Hawaii's difficult economy, and has successfully grown his company to be one of the largest locally owned and operated statewide food distributors; and

 

     WHEREAS, with over 20 years of service to Hawaii through the HFA, CHAD BUCK has shown admirable commitment to giving back to the community through events and donations, annually donating up to $2 million worth of food to the Hawaii Foodbank and other nonprofit groups; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 2022, CHAD BUCK donated the first "Pre-Covery Pod" of its kind, which consists of 135,000 meals with a shelf life of 25 years, to sustain the Waianae community in case a disaster threatens food security; and

 

     WHEREAS, over the years, CHAD BUCK has been essential to organizing aid campaigns and leading food distribution outreaches to uplift communities throughout Hawaii in the throes of disasters and the pandemic and has been an avid advocate for disaster preparedness with the foresight and logistical prowess to anticipate the preparations required to respond to a range of disasters; and

 

     WHEREAS, CHAD BUCK actively collaborates with the Governor's office and various government agencies to coordinate plans for swift responses; and

 

     WHEREAS, on the morning of August 9, 2023, the community began to ascertain the magnitude of devastation from the Lahaina wildfires, one of the greatest natural disasters in the State's history; and

 

     WHEREAS, CHAD BUCK received an urgent call from the Governor urging him to act immediately and in just a few hours arrived on site, armed with trucks full of food, water, aid, and community donations, having organized, in conjunction with government agencies, the largest private industry response to a natural disaster in the history of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, CHAD BUCK continues to support those affected by the Lahaina wildfires through the HFA, gifting millions of dollars worth of food, water, ice, and supplies to Maui food hubs, offering equipment, with over 1,350 transports from the West coast to Hawaii and inter-island, and delivering tens of millions of pounds of food, supplies, and aid in the months following the Lahaina wildfires; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, that this body hereby recognizes CHAD BUCK, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Hawaii Foodservice Alliance, LLC, for being a beacon of light and hope by immediately distributing aid to the Lahaina wildfire disaster victims during their darkest hours and extends to him its warmest aloha and best wishes in all future endeavors.
