HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the city and county of honolulu to enforce prohibitions to deter parking in bicycle paths.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, bicycle paths are set aside for use by bicycles and pedestrians, and are physically separated from motor traffic; and

 

     WHEREAS, in areas with little parking, cars are often parked in bicycle paths; and

 

     WHEREAS, blocking bicycle paths forces bicyclists to run or ride out onto the street; and

 

     WHEREAS, parking in bicycle paths creates serious dangers that illegal parking in other areas does not; and

 

     WHEREAS, section 291C-123, Hawaii Revised Statutes, prohibits the parking of any vehicle on a bicycle path, except under certain conditions; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that the City and County of Honolulu is requested to post fines on official signs that provide notice that parking in bicycle paths is prohibited, and to take other appropriate steps to deter parking in bicycle lanes; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the Honolulu Police Department is requested to regularly enforce the prohibition against parking in bicycle paths; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor, the
Chairperson of the Council, and the Chief of Police of the City and County of Honolulu.
