A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO HOUSING.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2013-2014 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2014-2015 for the state rent supplement program for homeless individuals or families who work, either part-time or full-time, and who are ready to rent permanent housing to obtain and maintain permanent housing and for the department of human services to hire and train one program specialist to monitor the state rent supplement program and to enter into contracts to implement the program on a statewide basis; provided that the rent supplement shall be available via participation in workforce development programs or other programs that provide support to workers to increase self-sufficiency; provided further that the maximum rent supplement shall be $300 per month after households pay a minimum of forty per cent of their adjusted income for rent.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of human services for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2030.
