A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§302A- School gardens. (a) All schools are authorized to grow food in school gardens for consumption in their school meals programs; provided that food products used in a school meals program shall be inspected and certified as safe by the department of agriculture.
(b) The department may adopt rules under chapter 91 to facilitate the implementation of this section."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2030.
