A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to INDIGENOUS people day.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 8-1.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

     "[[]§8-1.5[]]  Discoverers' Day[.]; Indigenous People Day.  The second Monday in October shall be known as:

     (1)  Discoverers' Day, in recognition of the Polynesian discoverers of the Hawaiian Islands[,]; and

     (2)  Indigenous People Day, in recognition of indigenous peoples of the world;

provided that this day is not and shall not be construed to be a state holiday."

     SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
