A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

related to suicide prevention training.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


SECTION 1.  This Act shall be known and may be cited as the Jason Flatt Act of 2017.

     SECTION 2.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part III, subpart B, to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-     Suicide prevention; in-service training.  The department shall require that in-service training include at least two hours of suicide prevention education for all teachers and principals each school year.  This education may be accomplished through self-review of suicide prevention materials approved by the department."

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
