RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Amy Hennessey; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Amy Hennessey is widely recognized throughout this state as the
personification of excellence in education; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Augusta State University, Ms. Hennessey has dedicated 23 years to
molding young minds and challenging students in Augusta, Georgia, teaching at
Aquinas Academy for 18 years and Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School for the past
five years; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Hennessey has been recognized by the Georgia Council on Economic Education
as the 2009 Georgia Economics Teacher of the Year for her leadership and deep
personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
she led her team of economics students to their first competition in the 2008
National Council on Economic Education/Goldman Sachs Foundation National
Economics Challenge, where they placed first in the Adam Smith Division for
Advanced Placement, honors, and International Baccalaureate students;
and
WHEREAS,
her guidance and dedication were instrumental in this team placing third in the
Southeast Regional Competition; and
WHEREAS,
nothing is more vital to the future of our state than the education of our young
people, and Ms. Hennessey has, during her teaching career, exemplified the
selfless dedication and professionalism which are characteristic of our finest
educators; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is
abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary
commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Ms. Amy Hennessey for her sacrifice, foresight, accomplishments, and
contributions on behalf of education in Georgia, recognize the positive
influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in
this state, and extend congratulations upon her selection as the 2009 Georgia
Economics Teacher of the Year.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Amy Hennessey.
