RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Hugh Carroll Butler; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Hugh Carroll Butler on December 22, 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Butler was born on September 1, 1934, in Ramhurst, Georgia, a beloved son of
the late George W. and Ethel Waldrop Butler; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Air Force, was retired from Omega Steel, and was recognized as Citizen of
the Year of Port Wentworth in 2010; and
WHEREAS,
a community leader, Mr. Butler served as chairman of the Good Samaritan
Committee of Port Wentworth for many years, a member of the City Council of Port
Wentworth for 20 years, and a member of the Port Wentworth Lions Club for 25
years; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Butler was an active member of First
Baptist Church of Port Wentworth for 45 years, where he was ordained as a deacon
in 1972 and served as Sunday school director for 25 years; and
WHEREAS,
he was united in love and marriage for nearly 55 years to Carolyn Scott Butler
and was blessed with the support of his remarkable children, Kimberly and Jack
Tice and Timothy and Blanche Butler; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Butler was the proud grandfather to four wonderful granddaughters, Ashley,
April, Christian, and Hillary; and two delightful great-grandchildren, Dylan and
Madison; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Butler will long be remembered for his
love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mr. Hugh Carroll Butler and express their
deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Hugh
Carroll Butler.
