A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mrs. Jennifer Thomas; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jennifer Thomas became a foster parent in 2005 and has been committed to improving the lives of children in the foster care system ever since; and

WHEREAS, since opening up her home to foster siblings, a four-year-old girl and seven-year-old boy, Mrs. Thomas has seen firsthand the importance of the family bond between brothers and sisters; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Thomas is the founder of Camp to Belong Georgia, an organization with the mission of reuniting siblings separated by foster care for fun events that encourage emotional empowerment, promote sibling connections, support educational needs, and create happy childhood memories; and

WHEREAS, a nonprofit organization, Camp to Belong Georgia held its first event in July, 2008, reuniting 22 siblings from eight counties in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, a kindhearted and magnanimous woman, Mrs. Thomas works tirelessly coordinating, fund raising, and organizing for Camp to Belong Georgia and the children in foster care the camp serves; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Thomas is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in sociology and hopes to one day serve as a guardian ad litem or a court appointed special advocate for children; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Thomas recently married her husband, Jamie, and is already blessed with a family of four children, two sons her husband brought to the family and the two foster children the couple have decided to adopt; and
WHEREAS, the benevolent and selfless deeds of this charitable woman serve as a shining example of volunteerism, and the State of Georgia is honored and blessed to have Mrs. Thomas as a citizen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mrs. Jennifer Thomas on her efforts and contributions on behalf of foster children and congratulate her on the honorable distinction of being named TowneLaker magazine's Pathfinder of the Month.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Jennifer Thomas.
