RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Wells Ellenberg; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Wells Ellenberg has been selected as a student delegate for the 47th annual
United States Senate Youth Program in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS,
the program was created in 1962 to increase young Americans' understanding of
the interrelationships among the three branches of government, expose them to
the caliber and responsibilities of federally elected and appointed officials,
and emphasize the vital importance of democratic decision making;
and
WHEREAS,
the extremely competitive merit based program brings together 104 of the most
outstanding high school students for an intensive week-long study of the federal
government; and
WHEREAS,
a senior at Frederica Academy in St. Simons Island, Georgia, Wells was chosen by
State School Superintendent Kathy Cox from hundreds of applicants to be one of
the two student delegates representing Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Wells has demonstrated his commitment to leadership while in school, serving as
student body president, yearbook business manager and editor-in-chief, honor
council secretary, National Honor Society vice president, and captain of the
varsity golf team; and
WHEREAS,
his achievement and potential have been recognized with prestigious honors from
the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Daughters of the American
Revolution, Congressional Youth Leadership Council, and Rotary International;
and
WHEREAS,
Wells plans to study political science in college and attend law school;
and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation toward the future of this
bright and promising young citizen.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Wells Ellenberg on his selection as a student delegate and his many remarkable
accomplishments.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Wells Ellenberg.
