A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
Sheriff Randall Johnson on the occasion of his retirement; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Randall Johnson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state
for the vital role that he has played in community leadership and his deep
personal commitment to public service and the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Randall Johnson, Sheriff of Fayette County, has served the State of Georgia ably
and with great distinction for nearly 49 years; and
WHEREAS,
born in Fayette County on October 13, 1940, and a graduate of Fayette County
High School, he began his law enforcement career in 1959, when he was sworn in
as a Fayette County Deputy Sheriff by then Fayette County Sheriff James
Stinchcomb; and
WHEREAS,
in 1961, he went to work for the State of Georgia working at the Capitol in
Atlanta, before joining the Georgia Department of Revenue, Division of Alcohol
and Tobacco as a special agent two years later; and
WHEREAS,
he left the Department of Revenue to successfully campaign for the Office of
Sheriff of Fayette County; and
WHEREAS,
in 1976, he was elected the 23rd Sheriff of Fayette County and has been
successfully reelected by the citizens of Fayette County for eight terms;
and
WHEREAS,
upon the occasion of his retirement on December 31, 2008, Sheriff Randall
Johnson stood as the third longest serving sheriff in Georgia, tied with only
six other sheriffs for length of service; and
WHEREAS,
he and his lovely wife, Kaye Stansel, have been married for 40 years and are the
proud parents of two daughters, Melissa Johnson and Beth Anderson, and are
blessed with two grandsons, Brady and Sawyer Anderson; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his state as evidenced dramatically
by his many years of exemplary service as sheriff; and
WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the
members of his community and this state have earned him the respect and
admiration of his colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor and
commend Sheriff Randall Johnson for his many decades of efficient, effective,
unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of this state and extend
to him their most sincere best wishes for his retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sheriff Randall Johnson.
