RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. Rhonda M. Medows; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Rhonda M. Medows has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Medows has diligently and conscientiously devoted her time, talents, and
energy to Georgia's Department of Community Health as commissioner since 2005,
leading a $12 billion agency responsible for the purchasing, planning, and
regulation of health care for over 2.3 million Georgians; and
WHEREAS,
she has demonstrated an unyielding and constant commitment to improving the
health care delivery systems of Georgia and the health outcomes of health care
consumers; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Medows graduated from Cornell University, earned a medical degree from
Morehouse College of Medicine, completed a family medicine residency at
University Hospital at Stony Brook, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of
Family Physicians; and
WHEREAS,
prior to her appointment as commissioner, Dr. Medows served as the first Chief
Medical Officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Region IV
Office, serving eight southeastern states and providing essential day-to-day
functions for Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Children's Health Insurance
Program; and
WHEREAS,
a board certified family physician, Dr. Medows has served as an assistant
professor at Florida State University and the University of Florida and
practiced medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida;
and
WHEREAS, she has served as Secretary for the State of Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration, Corporate Medical Director for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Florida, Chief Medical Officer for a multistate disease management company, and clinical director of a large pharmaceutical company; and
WHEREAS, she has served as Secretary for the State of Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration, Corporate Medical Director for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Florida, Chief Medical Officer for a multistate disease management company, and clinical director of a large pharmaceutical company; and
WHEREAS,
her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience
and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the
citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her
colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Dr. Rhonda M. Medows for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated
public service to the State of Georgia and her diligent leadership in the field
of medicine and health care.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Rhonda M. Medows.
