RESOLUTION
Commending
Prevent Child Abuse Habersham and recognizing April, 2010, as Prevent Child
Abuse Awareness Month at the state capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
child abuse violates a child's privacy, dignity, security, and humanity;
and
WHEREAS,
the crime of child abuse is the systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual,
and psychological abuse to children, including the neglect of a child and their
basic needs;
and
and
WHEREAS,
the problems of child abuse are not confined to any group or groups of people;
child abuse cuts across all economic, racial, and societal barriers and is
supported by societal indifference; and
WHEREAS,
child abuse affects individuals, families, and communities throughout this state
and across the United States; and
WHEREAS,
survivors of child abuse serve as strong advocates for preventing child abuse
and dedicate their efforts to bringing protection to children and increasing
public awareness, education, and training for parents; and
WHEREAS,
during the month of April, Prevent Child Abuse Habersham will conduct several
events in order to raise public awareness of child abuse; and
WHEREAS,
Prevent Child Abuse Habersham sponsors four programs, First Steps, Parents as
Teachers, Need to Talk, and Stewards of Children, in an effort to prevent child
abuse in Habersham County before it begins; and
WHEREAS,
the contributions and efforts of Prevent Child Abuse Habersham and others
working to prevent child abuse are worthy of
recognition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Prevent Child Abuse Habersham on their efforts to spread the message of the damaging physical and psychological effects of child abuse and recognize April, 2010, as Child Abuse Prevention Month at the state capitol.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Prevent Child Abuse
Habersham.
