A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dance to a Different Drum, Inc.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dance to a Different Drum, Inc., was established in 1998 in Atlanta, Georgia, by
Nana Agyeiwaah Anan, an Akan priest, who is a performing, literary, recording,
and teaching artist; and
WHEREAS,
a nonprofit organization, the mission of Dance to a Different Drum is to
celebrate African and African American art forms and serve communities through
work with other nonprofit art, humanities, and service organizations;
and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Anan has earned a well-deserved reputation as an expressive and receptive
teacher whose reinforcement and motivation techniques create a comfortable
environment that supports learning while contributing to the positive self image
of participants; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Anan uses drama, dance, music, and poetry to weave powerful tales of tragedy
and triumph, through such works as
American Fruits with
African Roots, and sing-along songs,
tell-along songs, and do-along dances; and
WHEREAS,
since its creation, Dance to a Different Drum's performances, workshops, and
residencies have touched over 30,000 lives; and
WHEREAS,
Dance to a Different Drum is supported by the Fulton County Arts Council and the
Georgia Council for the Arts; and
WHEREAS,
Dance to a Different Drum has provided support for organizations such as Smart
Start and the Department of Education; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine
organization and its numerous contributions to the citizens of this state be
appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Dance to a Different Drum, Inc., for serving as a positive force in the Atlanta
community and inspiring countless Georgians.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dance to a Different Drum,
Inc.
